Funding
Okizu is a public benefit (501) (c) (3) nonprofit organization. The primary operation of the foundation is Camp Okizu, the Northern California Oncology Camp.
As envisioned, our 2009 program schedule will include three one-week sessions of oncology camp, four one-week sessions of siblings’ camp, eight weekend family camps, four weekend “Teens and Twenties” trips and two weekends for bereaved teenagers. Each of the oncology and sibling sessions is expected to draw approximately 140 campers. Our family camps are expected to host an average of 170 family members each weekend. Each “TNT” trip and bereaved teen weekend will include about 25 teen and young adult participants. That translates to over 2,500 people we expect to serve through Camp Okizu in 2009!
The cost of sending a child to camp for one week is approximately $1,000. Depending on the size of the family, the cost of a weekend at family camp is approximately $275. Because many of the families we serve are already financially stressed from the expenses associated with their child’s illness, we do not charge a fee to attend Camp Okizu . We do, however, receive donations from many of our families and other individuals in support of our programs to offset the costs.
Okizu continues to actively seek new sources of funding through special events and the generosity of individuals, organizations, corporations and foundations to help provide the funds necessary to support our programs. We invite your participation in joining our commitment to provide children with cancer the joy and excitement of a medically supervised residential summer camp that they might otherwise not be able to attend.
